Indonesia spans the Equator amid the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. While it has land boundaries with Malaysia to the north and also East Timor and Papua New Guinea to the east, it also adjoins Australia located to the south, and Palau, the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand to the north, and India situated in the northwest. Consisting of 18,110 islands, 6,000 of them occupied, Indonesia is the biggest island in the world. Around 240 million people live in this fourth most populated country in the world — following China, India, as the USA — and by far the biggest country in Southeast Asia.
